New Gadgets

I took my new jibcrane for a testshoot and filmed a little stream with it, the short video also shows how the jib looks and works. I wanted to make a tutorial how to make this jib but I didn´t have the time for it. Check out the video HERE. I finally received the motors and gears I ordered from ebay. The stuff is Lego so I dug up the Lego from my childhood and began to build a “timelapse module”.  It works like this: There is a rechargeable lithium battery with seven speed adjustments for both directions, the motor sits next to it. Connected to the motor is an axle with a  wormgear on the end. Then the motion goes through a few bigger and smaller gears and finally the dolly will be towed with a string on an axle attached to the last gear on the module. It basically looks like a big lego clock. I´ve tested it already and the footage looked good but not good enaugh. I will do further tests with it, I have some ideas how to make the results look perfect. As soon as I´ll succeed I´ll put up the results on the site. The behind the scenes video of the Northen Norway bc kicker session is ready and will be on the site before the weekend is...

Back at home doing nerdy stuff..

Well, now I´m back home in Iceland after a little trip to Austria, I have to say I´m quite satisfied, we drank a lot of my favorite beer, the Austrian Zipfer, we had slushy summery like days  and sunny powder runs in the trees. That was all indeed very nice. But now it´s back to work. I´m currently rendering a little “behind the scenes” video from the backcountry session in Northen Norway, it will be up on the site shortly. Like mentioned before, my new jibcrane is functional and ready for operation. Very soon I will post a complete assembly/test video with it. Now the only thing missing are a 3m LANC cable for the remote control and a monitor so I can frame my shots properly. I´ll order these items when I have the time and money. I also still have to build a tilt system for it, right now the camera is always leveled when using the crane but no tilting. I ordered some motors and gears from ebay. The parts will be arriving here in a few days, When they do, I´ll just have to attach them together in the right way, and connect them to my track dolly, It then hopefully works as a multi purpose motorized dolly. It will be very interesting what´s possible with that thing, especially in timelapse-photography. Would be amazing to be able to connect the motorsystem to the jibcrane as well, I don´t know if that will work but I have some ideas how it...

Austria

I´m leaving for Austria tomorrow so news from me might be on hold for the next two weeks, and the assembly/test video for my jibcrane will be delayed until after the trip. I put up a little video about how I made my cold shoe adapter though, view it...

Tests and Tools..

Well first, I put up a test comparing the little Sony SR1 and the Canon XH-A1. I was a little unlucky with the sun as it went behind some light clouds when I was switching cameras on the tripod, It is noticable in the first shots. I apologize but anyway, watch it HERE. Second, I´m currently rendering another short video about how I made my cold shoe adapter for accessories and how it works.  It will be online shortly. Third, I finished the building process of my jib crane today. The original design that I was planing in the beginning was just to buy aluminum square pipes that go into each other, drill a few holes in them and put bolts through. But I wasn´t satisfied, it was to much of a hassle to unfold/fold the crane.  So I came up with another better system. I didn´t have too much time in the garage where I was building so I didn´t do a proper tutorial how the jib got built but I took some pictures and soon I will make a complete assembly and test video with...

Iceland, home sweet home..

That´s right I´m in Iceland now, I like Narvik but I just got a little tired of it. The darkness, the expensive food and beer and some work issues got to me but the main bug was the long distance relationship with Anna. So after thinking about all these things I decided to fly home,  arrived in Iceland on wednesday. I´m going to stay here for a while now, maybe until I start the Digital filmmaking and animation diploma in Barcelona, Spain. This is something that is on the 2010 plan as well as buying better filmmaking equipment. But to break things up Me and Anna are going to visit Innsbruck, Austria for two weeks in easter, for some snowboarding, hopefully in powder. Anyway, now I have time for some building projects, I already started by buying the materials for a jib crane. When the crane is ready, (hopefully in a week or two) I´ll post some information how I built it.  I shot some test footage with the Canon EOS 7D and the Canon XH-A1 and compared some things with my little Sony SR1. The tests will be on here shortly, as well as a little video about my homemade cold shoe adapter, It works well for my Rode Videomic and is ideal if you don´t like the annoying Sony hot shoe mount for...

TPS Theatre

TrailerPark Studios has opened “The Theatre”, this is still under construction and for now just a BETA version and does not work perfectly in all browsers. But I hope (where it works), that it increases your viewing pleasure. Visit the TPS Theatre HERE. We found that Mozilla Firefox has some problems with our Theatre so apparently it looks a little goofy. Visit the alternative TPS Theatre for Mozilla Firefox ...
